WHITBREAD today announced a 3.1 per cent increase in total first quarter sales, boosted by a strong performance from its Costa Coffee division.
The British hotel and restaurant group posted an eight per cent rise in the coffee chain’s like for like sales for the 13 weeks to 30 May 2013, which it attributed to the cold weather increasing demand.
The group’s hotel chain Premier Inn saw sales rise 2.7 per cent over the period.
“We see no change to market conditions,” said chief executive Andy Harrison. “Our plans for profitable organic growth are well established which, combined with our strong focus on returns, should create further substantial shareholder value.”
