Construction slump worsens

The Glenigan index of activity in the construction sector slid further in the three months to February, data showed this morning. The yardstick was down 15 per cent over the year, dragged down by a 56 per cent collapse in industrial starts over the year. But one more upbeat area of the data was public sector – education starts were up seven per cent on the year, while health starts soared 21 per cent.
