Construction output growth falls in Eurozone

CONSTRUCTION output growth suffered a major drop in August, data from Eurostat revealed yesterday.

Eurozone construction production grew by 0.2 per cent in the month, according to initial estimates. The expansion represents a decline in growth from July’s 1.8 per cent increase in output. Across the whole EU, output did not grow at all in August. In July the Union’s construction sector expanded by 0.9 per cent.

Eurostat’s construction index shows the Eurozone’s production was 15.6 per cent lower in August than in the same month in 2005. For the whole EU, the decline is 9.9 per cent.
