Coach barking up wrong tree

Andy Lloyd

THIS episode calls into serious doubt the respect Micky Arthur’s players have for him. In short, they’ve stuck up two fingers at him.

Not all four are key members of the team but Shane Watson is vice-captain, so this is not a good sign for Australia a couple of months before they line up at Trent Bridge for the first Ashes Test.

Having said that, I think Arthur’s barking up the wrong tree with his management style and I agree with Mark Waugh’s assessment that dropping players for these reasons is reminiscent of an under-six team.

Australia are making a pig’s ear of their tour of India, which shows how well England did out there.

It would be wrong to sack Arthur now, but I’m not sure he’ll necessarily be in charge for the winter Ashes series Down Under.
