“I think it will be good for workers in the City - it’s quite close by and it gives us something to do in our lunch breaks. It also means we can shop during the week, so the weekends are free for other things. I’m not sure people will come in at the weekend specifically to shop. It might be good for people who live nearby.”

MARIA BERNARDI | GROCERS’ COMPANY

“I think it will be good for the area, although people generally are still quite reluctant to spend as much as they used to. Retailers are probably going to find it hard this Christmas. I think tourists will bring in a lot of money, especially at the weekends. I probably wouldn’t travel into the City to shop, as there are good places near where I live.”

SPENCER JAMES | GLENCAIRN

“I will probably walk over there in my lunch break to do a bit of shopping in the run-up to Christmas, as it’s not that far to go. I would consider coming down at the weekend to shop, although there are places nearer to where I live. I think it’s a good idea to open some more shops in the City.”
