CITY VIEWS: WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO HOUSE PRICES OVER THE NEXT YEAR?

GREG KERSCH | INVESCO PERPETUAL
“House prices will rise gradually over the next year, although a lot depends on the election. Anything could happen if there is a hung parliament. Bankers’ bonuses are likely to have an effect on London’s house prices continuing to rise.”

MATTHEW ROBSON | PREQIN
“There’s certainly a lot of hope that prices will get better in Southern England, but in the rest of the country there might be another short term blip. The South-East is floating on the falling pound, thanks to inflows of money and assets from foreign investors.”

STEVEN THOMAS | CORECO
“I see house prices staying flat. I can’t see the banks lending, which in turn makes it more difficult for individuals to get their hands on funds to buy. I don’t see there being another dip in prices but at the same time there won’t be double digit growth either.”

STEWART MCANDIE | F&C ASSET MANAGEMENT
“It’s anyone’s guess at the moment. Value is likely to hold up thanks to the lack of supply into the market. But there is a whole world of pain out there, especially if unemployment starts to rise. Overall, there will be a gradual recovery with not much movement in either direction.”
