It was a very honourable thing to do in some respects – pressure had been mounting on him over the past 24 hours and I think the public perception was they expected to see him move on.
I guess he had to go. I think it was quite obviously where the buck stops – the chairman’s resignation was probably a smoke screen. They both had to go: there was so much political pressure, there was no choice.
