CITY VIEWS: DOES SIR PHILIP HAMPTON'S ROLE AT ANGLO AMERICAN HINDER RBS?

DANIEL FOSTER WILLIS
“In theory, Hampton’s acceptance of a role at Anglo American shouldn’t have any effect on his ability to serve RBS. The bank needs to hire people who can help in the crisis, so I trust he can still do that despite taking on a second role.”

HARRY MCINDOE BPL GLOBAL
"RBS is faced with such constraints now and it’s still posting losses, so I don’t understand how Hampton could accept an additional responsibility that doesn’t help it out of the situation. He needs to focus the bulk of his energy on RBS.”

NICK SILVER CALLUND CONSULTING
“It probably won't make much of a difference that he accepted the Anglo American role as well. If he’s been appointed chairman of an organisation like RBS, he’s probably got enough experience to be able to handle additional responsibilities."
