CITY VIEWS: ARE OVERDRAFT CHARGES TOO HIGH?
MARK GIRARDOT |
HOWDEN
Yes, the rates are too high; it’s daylight robbery. It’s just wrong. It’s unethical. I don’t see how they could be in such dire financial straits that they need to do this, since they have just paid some very large bonuses to their employees.”
GRAHAM NISBET |
LLOYDS BANKING GROUP
I think there has been some difficulty here, but the banks have spent a lot of time reviewing charges and trying to make them fairer. People do have a responsibility to manage their money. It costs the banks a lot of money to process overdrafts.

I think they are a bit over the top. The charges must well exceed the
costs of administering them, and it’s a bit unfair. I don’t think
they’re doing this just because they’re in financial trouble. I think they’re trying to make more profit.
