Royal Bank of Scotland
The bank has appointed Helen Gordon as head of West Register, its special unit for distressed property assets in a newly created role with responsibility for global strategy. Her main task will be to maximise the returns to the group from property assets. Gordon joins from Legal and General Investment Management where she was property director of its life fund. Previous to this she worked as group property director at Railtrack and as managing director of John Laing Developments.

Mercer
One of the leading human resource consulting, outsourcing and investment services has appointed Russell Clarke as global chief investment officer (CIO). Clarke, Mercer’s current Asia Pacific CIO, will now be responsible for worldwide investment management decisions concerning all traditional asset classes.

HSBC Private Bank
The Private Bank has announced the appointment of Cecilia Smith as a senior vice president and relationship manager. Previously, she served as a senior director at BNY Mellon Wealth Management, a unit of Bank of New York Mellon Corp.

Schroders
The investment manager has appointed two senior members to its defined contribution pension fund. Tim Horne has been appointed as the DC investment solutions manager. He joins from Towers Watson, where he worked as an investment consultant. James Bourne has also been appointed as platform relationship manager. He joins from Fidelity International.

The World Gold Council
The market development organisation for the gold industry has appointed Natalie Dempster to lead its government affairs activities. Dempster is currently responsible for government affairs research. Prior to joining, she was an economist at The Royal Bank of Scotland and JP Morgan Chase.

Infrastructure UK
The Treasury body responsible for implementing the National Infrastructure Plan has appointed Geoffrey Spence as the new chief executive of Infrastructure UK to help support and guide the Treasury's infrastructure work.

Aureus Mining
The Africa focused gold company has appointed Paul Thomson as chief financial officer. Thomson has extensive accounting and corporate finance experience gained over 14 years with Ernst & Young and as a senior manager at Kazakhmys.
