Bupa
The Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt has joined the healthcare company as a non-executive director. She was formerly MP for Leicester West, secretary of state for health, secretary of state for trade and industry, and cabinet minister for women.

Santander
The bank’s corporate and commercial division has appointed Ben Barbanel as regional director for business development in London and the south east. He joined Santander in 2009 from Clydesdale Bank.

Howden Broking Group
The brokerage arm of the Hyperion Insurance Group has announced the appointment of George McGhie as regional practice head. He was previously at JLT Asia, where he was managing director of its benefits solutions group.

Samsung
Andrew Mills has joined the technology and digital media company as vice president of business-to-business for its Electronics Europe division. He has previously held executive positions at IBM, EDS, and KPMG Consulting.

SAV Credit
The credit card company has made two new hires. Sanjay Sharma, who joins as chief operating officer, was most recently chief operating officer and management board member at Bawag PSK. Doug Richards, who joins as chief financial officer, was previously chief executive at CMC Markets.

Simmons & Simmons
The law firm has appointed Ombline Ancelin as a competition law partner. She specialises in technology, media and telecommunications, and energy and infrastructure. She joins from Hogan Lovells, where she was an of counsel.

Institute of Directors
Nimble Thompson, chairman of NG Bailey, has been appointed deputy chairman at the professional association. He was formerly senior partner at Eversheds, Leeds and Manchester, and previously served as regional chairman for Yorkshire and the Humber at the Institute. He has been a member of the institute’s board since April 2008 and will take over from Philippa Foster-Back.
