The law firm has announced the appointment of Byron Nurse as a partner in its banking and finance practice. Nurse joins from Eversheds’s restructuring group, where he was a partner. Prior to that, he worked at Linklaters and Ward Hadaway.

Brit Group
The insurance company has hired Joy Ferneyhough as director of strategy and corporate development. Ferneyhough was most recently head of insurance equity research at Espirito Santo Investment Bank, where she was lead analyst for its European and UK insurance division. Prior to that, she spent four years at UBS Investment Bank as part of its European insurance equity research team.

Simmons & Simmons
Colin Passmore has been re-elected as the law firm’s senior partner. Passmore joined Simmons & Simmons in 1986, became a partner in 1990, and senior partner in 2011. He specialises in litigation for financial institutions, professional services firms, and insurance companies.

The accountancy and advisory firm has added to its specialist tax team with the appointment of Stephen Hemmings as tax director in its London office. He joins Menzies from KPMG, where he spent seven years in its corporate tax, real estate and infrastructure teams.

International Valuation Standards Council
The council for the valuation and operation of financial instruments has announced the appointment of John Smith to its board of trustees. Smith was appointed to the International Accounting Standards Board in 2002. Prior to that, he was a partner in the national office of Deloitte and Touche.

Casper Malig has joined the corporate cloud arm of Deutsche Telekom and sister company to T-Mobile as UK managing director. Malig has previously held executive positions at CSC and EDS.

The law and professional services group has appointed three new directors to its advocates division. Robert Colquitt specialises in commercial and chancery litigation, and formerly worked at Dickinson Cruickshank. Geoff Kermeen joined Cains 15 years ago, and works in corporate and structured finance. Tristan Head was previously at Denton Wilde Sapte.
