Chicken tycoon deserts idea to snap up pudding maker
THE OWNER of Goodfella’s pizza maker Northern Foods has ruled itself out as a potential suitor for Gü pudding manufacturer Noble Foods after reports yesterday suggested the two could strike a deal.
It is understood 2 Sisters Food Group, the Birmingham based food giant headed by chicken tycoon Ranjit Boparan – which bought Northern Foods last year – has ruled itself out of acquiring Noble Foods if the firm is put up for sale.
“We’re not interested in Noble,” a person close to the firm said.
It is thought Noble Foods, which is also the UK’s biggest egg supplier, is seeking a buyer following poor trading figures. Profits halved last year and it was forced to reduce its dividends.
Noble Foods was unavailable for comment last night. A 2 Sisters Food Group spokesman also declined to comment.
