Champions are dethroned by plucky Fulham

BRAVE Fulham held their nerve to clinch a famous victory over champions Shakhtar and set up a mouth-watering last 16 clash with Italian giants Juventus.

Roy Hodgson’s men survived a wave of late attacks by the Ukrainians and even had to make do with 10 men after Danny Murphy was sent off for a needless lunge on Darijo Srna.

Defender Brede Hangeland put the Cottagers in dreamland by heading home Damien Duff’s free-kick with Fulham’s first chance on 33 minutes.

Striker Jadson then fired home an equaliser after good work from Douglas Costa, but Fulham, even without Murphy, survived the onslaught to complete a memorable night.
