Champagne showers: City racing set turn out for Ascot hospitality

THERE will be plenty of corks popping at Royal Ascot this week – even more so than last year if the odds released by bookies Ladbrokes are anything to go by.

The bookmaker reckons a record amount of champagne will be swilled over the course of the racing meet – 1/2 that it will be more than the 51,000 bottles downed last year. However, seafood price increases mean that punters in the Royal Enclosure are predicted to go easy on the fresh lobster – not that the Royals in attendance will mind – apparently the Queen brings her own food in a tupperware container anyway.
