BRITISH Gas owner Centrica is understood to be lining up the chief executive of BP’s refining and marketing division Iain Conn to replace Sir Roger Carr as chairman at the energy giant.
Conn, who joined BP in 1986, is thought to figure highly in the list of candidates for the boardroom role following Carr’s decision to depart Centrica next year and take the chair at defence firm BAE Systems.
Conn currently sits on the BP board and also holds a non-executive boardroom post at Rolls-Royce.
In a surprise twist, former BAE Systems chairman Sir Dick Olver – the man Carr is replacing – has also been tipped as a potential replacement for Carr. Centrica declined to comment.
A move for Conn, first reported by The Independent, comes as Centrica moves to tap more energy resources – last month it signed a deal with shale gas explorer Cuadrilla.
