CCS shortlist cut down to two

Energy giants Shell and Drax were yesterday chosen as preferred bidders for the next stage of the government’s £1bn carbon capture and storage (CCS) programme. Shell and SSE’s 1,180 megawatt combined cycle gas plant in Scotland, and Drax’s 304 megawatt coal plant in North Yorkshire have been chosen as the two projects in the pipeline for major development, following chancellor George Osborne’s Budget announcement yesterday that two CCS projects will be taken forward to the planning and design stage.
