Carney talks socks on the Central Line as his Bank tenure kicks off

THE NEW Bank of England governor has landed, and the first eagle-eyed Carney-watcher to spot the Canadian in the City yesterday was an early riser.

Before Carney had even stepped foot inside the Bank he was spotted by Seven Investment Management co-founder Justin Urquhart Stewart on a pre-7am central line train, where the fund manager almost mistook Carney for Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney.

So did the pair make small talk about interest rates, or even a Sir Mervyn King favourite – the cricket? Apparently not. “We discussed the colour of my socks” said Stewart.
