THE OWNER of AutoTrader, the second-hand car listing service, has appointed a new chief executive after a six-month search.
Trader Media Group yesterday announced it had poached Trevor Mather from IT consultancy ThoughtWorks. The appointment comes at a crucial time for the group, which is jointly held by private equity firm Apax and Guardian Media Group (GMG), the owner of the Guardian and Observer newspapers.
GMG recently ended talks with Apax over a sale of its stake to the private equity firm, estimated as being worth up to £600m, and Trader Media Group has also been the subject of float speculation. The business has been a great success for GMG, propping up its lossmaking newspaper arm.
Mather, who worked at Accenture before joining ThoughtWorks in 2002, will take over from interim chief Zillah Byng-Maddick in June. Former boss John King stepped down at the end of September.
