TOP ECONOMIST Stephen Poloz was last night appointed as governor of the Bank of Canada, replacing Mark Carney who becomes Bank of England head this summer.

Poloz has led Export Development Canada since 2011 after 12 years as chief economist at the agency.

“We are confident Mr. Poloz will make an outstanding contribution to the work of the Bank and uphold its reputation as a leading central bank,” said Bank of Canada director David Laidley.
