ENGLAND will leave it late to decide whether to risk fast-bowlers Stuart Broad and Steven Finn in today’s final one-day international against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.
The pair missed the first two matches against the Black Caps with knee and shin injuries respectively, but both men bowled in the nets yesterday, fuelling hope that they could return in Nottingham this afternoon.
The hosts’ attack has struggled in back-to-back defeats and their return would boost England’s chances of avoiding a series whitewash, and having a full-strength side available for the Champions Trophy.
“It’s good to see them in the nets bowling,” said batsman Ian Bell. “They’ve been two massive performers in one-day cricket so to have them back fit – or certainly training – is a big boost. It’s always good to have a full squad and people competing for places.”
England begin their Champions Trophy campaign against holders Australia on Saturday.
