Break in the clouds as UK splashes out

CONSUMER spending shot up in April as strong online sales helped push total sales up 3.6 per cent compared to the same month last year, according to new numbers from Barclaycard.

Online sales rose 11.7 per cent, while good weather later in the month helped garden and DIY shops, but clothing sales declined. Data from the bank’s UK credit and debit cards showed growth above two per cent for three consecutive months for the first time since 2011.
