BRAZILIAN trade diplomat Roberto Azevedo has won the contest to become the new leader of the World Trade Organisation.

He is set to replace the two-term boss, France’s Pascal Lamy.

Azevedo will take over from Lamy on 1 September and immediately faces a baptism of fire – the WTO’s biennial ministerial meeting, to be held in Bali in December.
