MANCHESTER United striker Wayne Rooney would be a welcome addition to Paris Saint-Germain, one of the French club’s leading players said yesterday.
The high praise from Thiago Silva coincided with reports from Spain that United could fail in any bid to lure Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.
The Madrid club’s president, Florentino Perez, said he is confident that the star forward will sign an extension to his contract.
“My aim, Cristiano’s aim, and the aim of all Real Madrid fans is that he carries on playing here for many years to come,” Perez said.
“When so many people want the same thing, then it usually turns out to be the case.”
Ronaldo wants to stay at Madrid “without a shadow of doubt”, the president insisted. The Portuguese international has also hinted that he may be close to extending his contract, a move that would scupper United’s chances of re-signing him.
And the Premier League champions may be set to lose key forward Rooney, who previously clashed with new manager David Moyes after leaving Everton.
Rooney is being monitored by some of the wealthiest clubs in Europe, with Silva keen that he chooses PSG. “I love this player,” Silva said. “Whenever I have played against him he has scored. I would really like Rooney to sign for PSG.”
