BP claims probe hires ex-FBI chief

A former FBI director has been appointed to look into allegations of misconduct over claims settlements for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Oil giant BP is appealing the interpretation of the settlement used by the court, saying it has resulted in fictitious claims. BP welcomed Louis Freeh’s appointment to investigate “the recent allegations of unethical and potentially criminal behaviour” and said that Freeh has also been granted “wide latitude” to look for other possible violations within the claims settlement programme.
