LONDON mayor Boris Johnson has sold a 32 acre plot of land in Dagenham for a £63.3m affordable housing scheme – one of the first plots of land to be released as part of his plan to unlock development on public sector land.

The Greater London Authority said yesterday it has exchanged contracts with Morgan Sindall’s affordable housing arm Lovell for the site at Lymington Fields.

Morgan Sindall will build more than 360 homes, including 213 for private sale by Lovell, 104 homes for affordable rent and 45 homes for shared ownership sale through housing provider Home Group.

Construction is due to start in July this year and the scheme is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
