Bitcoin value sliced in half

BITCOIN, the virtual currency that has boomed in recent weeks, more than halved in value yesterday, falling from a high of $266 (£173.58) to just above $100 before rebounding.

The internet currency, which has become a haven for investors who have lost trust in banks, fell dramatically following reports that a number of trading exchanges had been subjected to cyber attacks.

The price of a Bitcoin recovered somewhat yesterday night, hitting levels above $150.
