FOUR Mayfair hedge funders started as they meant to go on when they met for lunch at the Simon Parker-Bowles-owned Green’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar in St James’s. Crab salad and two-dozen oysters were accompanied by a vintage bottle of Krug champagne, followed by two bottles of Grand Cru Chablis to complement their Dover Sole and steak tartare and then sticky toffee pudding, Stilton and a bottle of port. They did, however, make it back to the office in time for close of the markets – rumours that the group settled in to the nearest Mayfair pub for the rest of the afternoon after their £1,300 Tuesday lunchtime blow-out are extremely wide of the mark.
