WINNING a major contract served as the occasion for this Belgian company to splash out at Boyd’s Restaurant and Bar recently. The hungry diners were relatively restrained in their celebratory booze, racking up only one bottle of Cristal at £250. But they made up for it with a bevy of sambucas, a couple of bottles of Puligny Montrachet and one Vidal ice wine.

They balanced their diet with an army of platters, ranging from the hearty (venison pie) to the indulgent (Cambridge cream and cheese platters) and thence to the leafy (dressed leaves) for a total of £1,147.
