Best of the Brokers for 9 July 2013

Numis has a “buy” rating on the pub firm and a target price of 85p. The broker thinks Andy Murray’s victory at Wimbledon coupled with the sunny weather will boost pubs this summer. The effects could be magnified at Spirit, which has been left out of a recent rally in the sector.

Cantor Fitzgerald keeps its “buy” rating and 443p target price on the supermarket after last week’s purchase of 33 Alfred Jones convenience stores. The broker sees smaller shops as a ripe source of growth for Tesco.

HSBC keeps its “overweight” recommendation on the miner but cuts its target from £10 to £6.20 in tandem with its lower forecasts for the price of gold. The broker nevertheless sees Polymetal’s business case as sound and able to withstand the gold market meltdown.
