Commuting: Getting to London from Hitchin is easy. The station is located close to the town centre and the journey only takes 35 minutes, running into King’s Cross station. Driving to the City notionally takes an hour along the M1, but it can take significantly longer at rush hour.

Education: Hitchin is blessed with two reasonably good state schools: Hitchin Girls’ School and Hitchin Boys’ School. Last year, 90 per cent of pupils at the Girls’ School achieved five A*-C grades at GCSE. The Boys’ School did not perform quite so well. Its pupils scored 69 per cent A*-C.
