SRI Lankan captain Angelo Mathews admitted last night that his team have to improve their batting after they succumbed to a nail-biting one wicket defeat to New Zealand.

Sri Lanka, who play England this Thursday at the Oval, were bowled out for 138, before New Zealand staggered across the finish line to win on 139-9 in the 37th over.

“Our batting needs to be tightened up a little bit more,” Mathews said. “[But] whoever bowled was absolutely brilliant, backed up by fielding,” he added.
