TROUBLED infrastructure group Balfour Beatty today announced that it has won a £200m contract with Herefordshire Council.

The ten-year contract covers highways maintenance, improvement works, street lighting, street cleaning and responsibility for public areas, effective from 1 September.

The FTSE 250-listed firm – which has issued two profit warnings this year – announced last month that it was closing three UK offices, resulting in job losses.

“This exciting opportunity to work with Herefordshire County Council further strengthens our position in the local authority services sector,” said chief executive Andrew McNaughton.

“We are dedicated to delivering an effective, efficient, sustainable and customer focused service for the county which we will achieve through flexible delivery, innovation, and staff development.”
