Australia’s bid to get Champions Trophy campaign on track halted by weather

THE CHAMPIONS Trophy match between Australia and New Zealand was abandoned yesterday, due to persistent rainfall, leaving a cloud over both teams’ chances of progressing from Group A. Adam Voges scored 71 off 76 balls as Australia, batting first, reached 243-8 at the end of their 50 overs. Fast bowler Clint McKay took two early wickets in New Zealand’s reply, but the Black Caps only completed 15 overs, with the score on 51-2, when the umpires abandoned the match. Neither side can now afford to lose their final group match.
