WHATEVER Cameron can do, Boris can do a year later. Twelve months ago the Prime Minister was the guest of honour at the launch of Lloyd’s of London’s 2025 vision, held in the insurance marketplace’s enormous underwriting room on Lime Street. Not to be outdone, Boris Johnson yesterday commandeered the same epic space to deliver a speech on the general brilliance of the UK insurance industry, for no better reason than he could. Around 3,000 workers crowded onto stairs and floors of the room to hear him call Lloyd’s the “engine room of capitalism” and claim his political hero is the mayor from the film Jaws. Boris’ support for the City has always been a welcome breath of fresh air – and could even prove useful when it comes to financing a run for Number 10.
