It’s been a good week for retailer Ted Baker. Not only did the firm impress the City with a profit rise, but its founder Ray Kelvin (pictured) was presented with a business lifetime achievement award and honorary professorship at the Glasgow Caledonian University’s London campus. However, there was no shouting his success from the rooftops. The notoriously shy Kelvin lived up to his reputation by hiding his face behind his new degree.
Will the real George Osborne please stand up? After the news that president Barack Obama mixed up George Osborne, the chancellor of the exchequer, with US musician Jeffrey Osborne at the recent G8 meeting, the singing Osborne weighed in with his two cents in on the blunder. The lead vocalist of the band LTD revealed: “I was really delighted actually. Tell the chancellor when I come over I will have to hook up with him and we will do a duet of On The Wings Of Love.” And what did No11 Downing Street’s Osborne make of Jeffrey’s generous offer? “Jeff, you wouldn’t suggest a duet if you’d heard me sing” was the polite rebuff.
