The Capitalist hears that guests from Barclays, HSBC and BNY Mellon found themselves witnessing a magic trick from an unexpected source last week at Scottish restaurant Boisdale’s Canary Wharf outpost. Former racing driver Nigel Mansell (pictured) pulled his wallet out of his pocket at a charity gala dinner for UK Youth, only for it to promptly burst into flames – and for the Formula One driver to then disappear. Luckily it seems that Mansell’s was the only wallet disappearing, as a grand total of £97,000 was raised from the evening.
Always happy to celebrate the success of the City’s female contingent, The Capitalist was thrilled to see the return of the fourth annual Women in the City Future Leaders Award. Five high-flying females have been shortlisted to win the big prize at next month’s ceremony. The line-up features Xchanging product manager Alexandra Considine, head of commercial banking support at RBS Imelda O’Neill, Axa managing director Karen Hogg and easyJet chief accountant Zarina Sabir. No doubt a shiny trophy would be a much needed morale booster at in-the-spotlight bank RBS.
