Adebayor hit with double charge after ugly display
MANCHESTER CITY striker Emmanuel Adebayor is facing a lengthy suspension after being hit with two separate charges by the Football Association for his actions in his side’s 4-2 win over former club Arsenal on Saturday.
The 25-year-old is staring at a three-game ban if found guilty of a violent conduct charge in relation to his alleged stamp on Robin van Persie.
Adebayor also faces a charge of improper conduct after running the length of the pitch to celebrate his goal in front of Arsenal supporters.
The Togo international has until 6pm tonight to answer the violent conduct charge, while a separate date will be set to consider the charge of improper conduct.
Unless he can successfully argue his case, Adebayor looks certain to sit out at least four matches for City, starting with the crunch Manchester derby with United on Saturday.
An FA statement read: “Under the fast-track disciplinary process, Adebayor has been charged with violent conduct following an incident with Robin van Persie, which resulted in the player receiving facial injuries.
“Referee Mark Clattenburg has advised the FA that he did not see this incident, but has confirmed that had he done so, he would have sent Adebayor off for violent conduct.”
