Ad revenues down at Johnston

Johnston Press has said that its advertising revenues in the 18 weeks to May were down by 10.6 per cent from the same period a year ago, though the downward trend moderated to a decline of 7.8 per cent in the last five weeks of that period. The company also said that increased newsprint prices were impacting business, and that it would implement savings of £5m this year to offset the hike in costs. Johnston said public sector cutbacks were an important factor behind a 30.7 per cent fall in employment advertising. Johnston Press publishes the Scotsman and the Yorkshire Post.
