Hiring surging at near-record pace

THE RAPID upswing in employment by British firms is still not slowing down, with hiring intentions close to record levels and still picking up pace.

More and more employers are looking to raise their staff levels, and shortages are likely to emerge in key sectors, according to accountancy firm BDO’s latest employment index.

The index hit 107.7 last month, just shy of February 2007’s 108.9, the high point of the survey’s 22-year history. BDO expects the index to rise further in the next quarter.
