PREMIER League leaders Liverpool yesterday announced plans to expand the capacity at their Anfield home to 59,000.
Public consultation is scheduled this week on plans to redevelop the Anfield Road and Main Stands.
Liverpool intend to submit their planning application to the city council during the summer in the hope work can begin next year, with a completion date in time for the 2016-17 season. Anfield’s current capacity is 45,500.
Managing director Ian Ayre said: “We started this journey just over 18 months ago. Good progress has been made so far and we are proud to be able to unveil our plans.”
