Champions League: Moyes revels in best display as five star United reach last 16

MANCHESTER United boss David Moyes hailed the performance in Leverkusen as the best of his tenure, as his side emphatically sealed their place in the Champions League knockout phase.

An own goal, plus strikes from Antonio Valencia, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Nani earned United their biggest ever away win in the competition.

And Moyes felt the victory was the most impressive he had overseen since succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson as manager in May.

“I have to say it was the best,” he said. “Scoring five is something we’ve not done in a game of this magnitude.

“I always hoped to continue standards that were set before [under Ferguson] and I hope the team’s performance showed that.

“It’s what I have been hoping to get more often. Our performance was great all round.”

United will finish top of Group A if they can avoid defeat at home to Shakhtar Donetsk.
