HUNDREDS of contract workers at Barclays are to lose 10 days’ work before the end of the year, City A.M. understands, in a move which surprised staff.
The contractors in Barclays Finance were told this week that they would have to take off 10 unpaid days by the end of the year. “The bank has run a high-profile campaign to promote its corporate values like respect and integrity, and I fail to see how putting all contractors on 10 days unpaid at a week’s notice lives up to that,” said one contract worker, speaking on condition of anonymity. “This isn’t something I was notified about, and is not in keeping with the publicity campaign.”
Recruiter Robert Walters emailed the staff to let them know they had to arrange the days off work with their line managers, and thanked them for their cooperation. It is not thought the bank is breaking any rules or contracts by requesting the change to hours.
Barclays and Robert Walters declined to comment.
