NEARLY three quarters of UK homes are ready to receive superfast broadband, according to an annual Ofcom report.
The number of customers using the superfast speeds has doubled over the past year, reaching 4.8m UK customers this year.
“Superfast broadband is rolling out fast across the country, and 4G mobile will reach at least 98 per cent of the population. This is really good news but there remain considerable challenges, not least in hard-to-reach areas for mobile and home internet services,” said Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards.
As part of the report Ofcom conducted its first ever analysis of mobile coverage on UK roads finding that mobile voice coverage is comprehensive across motorways and most A and B roads, but 3G data coverage is far less common.
Just 35 per cent of A and B roads are covered by all operators, and nine per cent of these roads are lacking any 3G data coverage.
