NORTHERN Ireland’s Graeme McDowell has tipped compatriot Rory McIlroy to continue his recent resurgence and win the BMW Masters in Shanghai following an under par opening round yesterday.
Following last week’s second-place finish at the Korea Open, McIlroy went round in 71 to boost his hopes of breaking into the Race to Dubai top 60. And McDowell, on two under par and five shots behind leader Luke Guthrie, is backing the 24-year-old to end the week strongly.
“His driving was fantastic and it’s looking ominous for the rest of us,” said McDowell, ranked second in the Race to Dubai standings.
“His score might not have reflected it but that was like watching Rory in 2011 and 2012.”
