England rocked by Rooney injury

STRIKER Wayne Rooney will miss England’s two forthcoming World Cup qualifiers with a head injury, however boss Roy Hodgson has been boosted by the news midfielder Jack Wilshere will be fit to report for international duty.

Rooney sat out Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at Liverpool yesterday and manager David Moyes said he has “no chance” of featuring for the Three Lions.

Defenders Phil Jones and Glen Johnson will also miss the games with Moldova and Ukraine, leading Hodgson to call up Cardiff defender Steven Caulker as cover.

However, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger quickly allayed fears that Wilshere would be next to pull out after he was replaced in the first half of yesterday’s win over Spurs.

“Wilshere has a stomach bug,” Wenger confirmed. “Nothing that will stop him going to England.”
