TWITTER has hired former Ticketmaster chief executive as its first head of commerce in a move revealed yesterday.
Nathan Hubbard announced his hiring in a tweet yesterday, in which he described the social network as, “a cardiogram of the passion of the live moment”.
While rival Facebook has experimented with ecommerce features such as coupons and is expected to move further into the mobile payments space in the near future, Twitter has yet to enter the space beyond its so-called daily deals initiative in 2010.
This latest hiring hints that Twitter could be looking to enter the ecommerce space in a more meaningful way.
Hubbard worked at Live Nation running its digital initiatives before the promoter merged with Ticketmaster in 2010.
