The law firm has announced the appointment of Mark Thomas as a partner in its financial services practice group. Thomas specialises in structured finance and capital markets. He was most recently at Addleshaw Goddard, where he was head of structured finance.

The professional services firm has hired Charlie McMurdie as senior crime adviser. McMurdie joins from the Metropolitan Police, where he worked for 30 years, most recently as head of its central e-crime unit.

The investment and risk management company has recruited Geoffrey Shaw as portfolio manager for the BlackRock UK Long Lease Property Fund. Shaw joins from Aviva Investors, where he was assistant fund manager of the Lime Property fund. Prior to that, he was a senior surveyor at Cushman & Wakefield.

Jones Lang LaSalle
James Murray has joined the real estate services firm as a surveyor in its Central London retail team. Murray was most recently at Colliers, where he worked in its Hong Kong retail agency team.

Thomas Miller
Kevin Sweet has been appointed group marketing director at the insurance, professional and investment services group. Prior to joining the company in 2010 as a consultant, Sweet was director of marketing at Partnership and head of marketing at Cofunds.

Soma Oil & Gas
The oil and gas exploration company has hired Philip Wolfe as chief financial officer. Wolfe has over 20 years’ experience in corporate finance, advising oil and gas companies. He joins from UBS Investment Bank, where he was managing director and head of oil and gas for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to that, he was global head of oil and gas at HSBC.

Frank Garcia has joined the real estate investment firm as managing director and portfolio manager for US core real estate strategy. He was formerly a managing director at RREEF.

Renaissance Capital
The emerging markets investment bank has hired two equities directors. Ilya Lobanov was most recently head of sales at Alfa Bank. Harry Stanford joins from Barclays Capital, where he ran its sales trading for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to that, he spent nine years at JP Morgan.
