Fortnum's message with its advertising this year is "Together We're Merrier". The firm said the message showcased the belief that "amazing things can happen when we all pull in the same direction".

"It also pays tribute to the myriad helping hands that make Christmas possible and intends to remind guests and customers that the season is a time best done all together," Fortnum's said.

The Christmas season will soon be in full swing as retailers start plugging their festive wares on television screens. M&S aired its advert for the first time today; it has partnered with British icon Paddington bear in a bid to boost its sales.

Meanwhile, John Lewis has been teasing its Christmas ad on this weird Twitter account.
