Texas church attack: At least 25 dead after mass shooting

At least 25 people were killed tonight in an attack by a gunman on a small church in Texas, according to reports.

A lone attacker opened fire on the congregation before fleeing in a vehicle, according to Reuters. The attacker was later killed 12 miles from the scene.

The attack occurred at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, east of San Antonio.

Children and a pregnant woman were among the dead, according to the New York Times.

US President Donald Trump said he is "monitoring the situation" from Japan, where he is currently making a diplomatic visit.

Trump said: "May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan."

Authorities had not yet identified the identity or the motive of the attacker at the time of writing.
